The circle in a square of the laundromat dryer came to mind when I saw this hub on an old loader. It’s obviously been painted several different colours as well as the dark staining of dirt encrusted grease. Up close there is actually a lot of interesting textures and I took a few digital images for a possible future painting. The filmwas a fresh pack from the fridge and you can see that it didn’t develop evenly on the bottom, I’ll have to wait until next week to find out if that is how all of them will now be.

Well that worked out. I performed the little trick with the Spectra camera where you take a picture and don’t release the shutter. Then you open the camera up release the shutter and close it again. At this point you can take a second exposure on the film. I imagine you could continue to do this as long as you don’t over expose it into whiteness. Now I need to come up with another idea to use this technique on.

I’m not sure how this happened, with the double exposure, but it prompted a search and it turns out that it should be possible to duplicate. With the Spectra camera I use apparently you can fool the camera into not ejecting the exposed Polaroid by opening the camera while continuing to hold the shutter button. Once fooled then you can take the second exposure. If the right images present themselves I’m going to give it a try, on purpose this time.

I’m not sure why but a picture of an older dryer at a laundromat just seemed to be the right fit with my Polaroid a week project. Maybe it’s because at the height of Polaroid is also about the time in my life where I used a laundromat, traveling and working away from home. The two must just converge in my memories. Again I was also reminded about why Photography is such a great social medium, the owner of the facility was very nice and accommodating as well as the other people there. In case your wondering it’s Old Country Laundry in Aldergrove and the decor was every bit as interesting with old photo’s and collectibles. Certainly more to look at than clothes spinning in a dryer although I think that has an appeal too.

Wow I didn’t realize weeks went by so fast. Well here is my week three image.
You may notice that is is the same scene that I took with my Pentax ME in a previous post. I like to compare the look I get with different cameras, lenses and films.

Week one April 1-8 no kidding. This stuff isn’t going to keep forever despite all my desires to posses it in it’s undeveloped state. It’s as if I’m waiting for some artistic epiphany that is worthy of it’s use. As that hasn’t happened and I’m not sure if I would recognize it if it did, here is my solution. If some people can do a photo a day why can’t I do a Polaroid image once a week. In case your wondering this isn’t an App this is actually Polaroid Spectra which I have been hoarding, see above.
Ok not the greatest composition (who planted that tree?) but I actually took two and gave the better one to the couple. Ahhh must be spring weddings are in the air.

I thought it was interesting how this image came to be posted. I took a Polaroid of this sign and because my main computer and scanner are still in boxes as I write this I took a picture of the picture with my camera phone and then uploaded it to Flickr so that it would be automatically re-sized. I then copied the resulting image to my children’s laptop where I now sit typing on it’s tiny keyboard and uploading the image to this blog.

“This stuff won’t keep for ever you know!” that’s the little voice that prompted me to pull a pack of Polaroid Spectra out of the fridge. I wasn’t even sure if it had survived the refrigeration as it is never supposed to freeze, yet the back of the fridge seems to produce some sub arctic temperatures at times. Well it appears to have survived OK and I received the pleasurable experience of watching my pictures develop, take that digital. I would like to take some portraits too as I use up the last of this film.
As a parting note the Impossible Project http://www.the-impossible-project.com/ is continuing to work on new instant films.
