{"id":5623,"date":"2012-04-17T19:24:57","date_gmt":"2012-04-18T02:24:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wkoopmans.ca\/notebook\/?p=5623"},"modified":"2012-04-17T19:24:57","modified_gmt":"2012-04-18T02:24:57","slug":"exhibition-at-the-reach-bearing-witness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wkoopmans.ca\/notebook\/?p=5623","title":{"rendered":"Exhibition at the Reach &#8220;Bearing Witness&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Even if you have nothing more than 10 minutes to spare, there is no reason not to pop in to the <a title=\"The Reach\" href=\"http:\/\/thereach.ca\/\">Reach Gallery Museum <\/a>in Abbotsford and take in this exhibition.\u00a0 The exhibit is comprised of works from the permanent collection of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vanartgallery.bc.ca\/\">Vancouver Art Gallery <\/a>and is a mix of works on paper and photographs.\u00a0 Specific to photographs and the reason that I think any photographer in the area with a moment to spare should stop by is the inclusion of works by\u00a0historically important photographers, such as Robert Frank, Margaret Bourke-White, Robert Capa and others.\u00a0 It covers documentary to conceptual photography but for me the one\u00a0image that I&#8217;m drawn\u00a0to most\u00a0is the monumental <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edwardburtynsky.com\/\">Edward Burtynsky\u00a0\u00a0<\/a><strong>Three Gorges Dam Project, Wan Zhou #6, Yangtze River, China 2002\u00a0<\/strong>.\u00a0 It depicts life literally on the edge as the people recover the building materials around them. There is just so much going on in that image.
