Once scanned I am using a passive viewer called a pokescope\u00a0which I purchased from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pokescope.com\/\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial; color: #000000; font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">PokeScope<\/span><sup><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">\u00ae<\/span><\/sup> Stereoscopic Resources.<\/span><\/a>\u00a0I have also\u00a0produced MPO files that are compatible with my HTC EVO 3D phone so that I can view the images in 3d without any additional aides. \u00a0There is something special however when these plates are viewed directly as they were originally intended with an antique viewer.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"frame-outer  alignnone size-full wp-image-5184\"><span><span><span><span><a href=\"http:\/\/wkoopmans.ca\/notebook\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Grand_Prix_009.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5184\" title=\"Grand_Prix_009\" src=\"http:\/\/wkoopmans.ca\/notebook\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Grand_Prix_009.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"415\" height=\"174\" srcset=\"http:\/\/wkoopmans.ca\/notebook\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Grand_Prix_009.jpg 1000w, http:\/\/wkoopmans.ca\/notebook\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Grand_Prix_009-300x125.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In order to scan these plates I needed to make a holder for my Epson V700.\u00a0 I chose to use ABS plastic because sheets of it were readily\u00a0available and I was able to use regular plumbing\u00a0adhesive to construct it.\u00a0 Each plate is 44x107mm so I made the width of the opening 104mm leaving just 1.5mm on each side to support the plate.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"frame-outer  alignnone size-full wp-image-5183\"><span><span><span><span><a href=\"http:\/\/wkoopmans.ca\/notebook\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/DSCN4326.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5183\" title=\"DSCN4326\" src=\"http:\/\/wkoopmans.ca\/notebook\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/DSCN4326.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"415\" height=\"297\" srcset=\"http:\/\/wkoopmans.ca\/notebook\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/DSCN4326.jpg 1000w, http:\/\/wkoopmans.ca\/notebook\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/DSCN4326-300x214.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The plates themselves appear to have been produced at the time with some form of reproduction.\u00a0 I know this because I found two\u00a0identical \u00a0plates.\u00a0 They come from a diversity of sources but appear to primarily be French in origin.\u00a0 Hopefully I will know a bit more by the end of the scanning process.\u00a0 I will likely write an update post at that time perhaps with a few more images.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am currently scanning a collection of stereoscopic glass plates from the late 19th century,I feel very honoured to have access to these.\u00a0\u00a0 They are an incredible view into the past, quite literally.\u00a0 I can&#8217;t help but thinking how many of the impressionist painters were still around and Post Impressionism was still developing.
